  • Virginia is the last southern state to protect a woman's right to choose. The 2023 General Assembly elections are upon us and all 140 seats in both chambers are on the ballot. Virginia Democrats have fielded a record number of women candidates for the House of Delegates and State Senate. Over half the Democratic nominees are women and the most racially, ethnically, and geographically diverse group to run. The 2023 women running for office this year are truly reflective of who Virginia is.

  • The Women’s Caucus is proud to endorse 30 incredible women candidates in the 2023 elections for state Senate, House of Delegates and County Boards. All women completed an application for endorsement which involved sharing their platform and priorities. All are strong advocates for women’s rights and freedoms and the Women’s caucus is excited to support their campaigns. Please visit our endorsement page to see who these incredible women are.

  • The women’s caucus of the democratic party of Virginia submitted a resolution to the State Central committee affirming its opposition to the imposition of restrictions on reproductive choice by the governments of the Commonwealth or the United States, and stand in solidarity with women in states where abortion has become or soon will become illegal. We are calling upon the General Assembly of Virginia and the United States Congress to take such actions as may be necessary to protect the right to safe and legal abortion and to codify the right to safe and legal abortion in the Virginia Code.   • The VA Democratic Women’s Caucus is sponsoring a pledge campaign to build a coalition of one million Virginia women in favor of reproductive freedom. We encourage women all across the commonwealth to join the campaign and take the pledge. The pledge is simple: a commitment to 1) vote in every election available (primary and general) and 2) only vote for candidates committed to ensuring women’s reproductive freedom including the right to a safe and legal abortion. Democratic women are at the forefront of making Virginia a strong and welcoming state. The Women’s Caucus of the state Democratic Party is actively building a powerful statewide network to support state and local candidates and issues. We invite you to join us!

Today, a growing number of Democratic women hold elected office at the local and state level. They championed and passed progressive legislation of concern to women that had been stalled for years or had never even been considered.

With the continuous Republican attacks on issues and legislation that promote women's health and well-being, the Women’s Caucus is determined to keep up the pressure and never go back.
